TEN FACTS

MILLIE BOBBY BROWN

The third of four children, Millie Bobby Brown was born in Marbella, Spain. Millie was 4 when her British parents, Kelly and Robert Brown, returned to England.

She learnt early on to adapt to difficult situations because she was born partially deaf and lost all hearing on one side.

After Millie decided to act at 8, the Browns moved to Orlando, Fla. She took performing arts workshops, booked some commercials (including a quite close Disney World one), and a talent scout who saw Millie at a showcase suggested she move to Los Angeles.

As she was filming Intruders in England, she was invited to audition for Stranger Things on Netflix. She told IndieWire in 2016: "So I did the first audition—a very emotional audition—and they said, 'Come back for a callback,'" "And I was like, 'Okay!'" To avoid spoiling the twist-filled drama, series producers Matt and Ross Duffer provided her false sequences to work on over successive casting rounds.

To prepare for Stranger Things, Millie and her young co-stars were told to watch Goonies, Poltergeist, and Stand By Me, '80s-era films that mix humor, horror, psychological drama, and lessons about love, family, and friendship.

The first kiss Brown had was with Finn Wolfhard's Mike in Eleven. "He says I wasn't [his first kiss], but I definitely think I was," Millie teased her absent co-star in Variety. "I think he was just trying to be cool."

After Stranger Things won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2017, Millie got her first SAG Award aged 12. Brown received two Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series nominations.

Her first of two Emmy nominations came months later for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at 13. She didn't win, but she's taken several consolation selfies. Five technical Emmys, including Outstanding Casting, were won by the series in 2017.

Brown has received the Best Actor award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards in both 2017 and 2018.

Stranger Things has utilized many wigs, but Brown's curly hair in season three was her own. "Millie didn't get a perm—her hair is naturally curly!" Hindsgall told Insider. "I wanted something childlike and natural. Millie's hair is scrunched up and she goes. I didn't want to touch her too much this season; I wanted her free. People shouldn't bother her this season because her character has an arc and numerous emotional sequences. Giving her calm was my goal."
