TEN FACTS ABOUT TUPAC SHAKUR

The rapper's name comes from the Incas and Arabic. The final leader of Peru's Incan Empire was Túpac Amaru. The name Tupac Amaru means “shining serpent.” The Arabic word “Shakur” means “thankful” or “appreciative.”

Madonna shocked the world in 2015 by admitting to dating Tupac Shakur. Madonna stated, “I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time, and the thing is he got me all riled up on life in general.”

Tupac Shakur was named after Túpac Amaru II, the last Incan emperor; he was killed in Peru in 1781 for his unsuccessful insurrection against Spanish control.

Tupac attended the Baltimore School of Arts. Tupac's mother tried to get him into school despite many obstacles.  Tupac moved to Baltimore School of Arts in tenth grade. Acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet were his subjects.

First stage name: MC New York. Official music career began in 1989 for Tupac. His first song as MC New York was recorded this year. 

He is the finest rapper ever. Tupac was a great rapper. The face and essence of hip hop culture. Tupac Shakur is the most influential hip-hop musician ever.

His mother named a foundation after him. In 1997, Tupac's mother founded the Shakur Family Foundation. It became the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF). The organization aims to “provide training and support for students who aspire to enhance their creative talents.”

Tupac appeared in movies. He starred in Juice 1992. He played militant Roland Bishop. Shakur played Birdie, a thug in Above the Rim (1994).

He founded Thug Life. Tupac established Thug Life in 1993 with Tyrus “Big Syke” Himes, Diron “Macadoshis” Rivers, his stepbrother Mopreme Shakur, and Walter “Rated R” Burns.

Most of his writings addressed social injustice. Tupac's songs expressed African Americans' struggles and injustices. His ability to do so made him a spokesperson for his generation and future generations fighting for equality.
