Lil Yachty made his first appearance on Saturday Night Live and definitely a memorable one.
It was already said that he would be performing during the Jenna Ortega’s episode, where their the 1975 were their musical guest on March 11.
Firstly Lil Yachty started with the performance, “The Black Seminole” that features Diana Gordon and complete with a psych rock band.
Lil Yachty has released his latest full-length album Let’s Start Here. It was an unexpected pivot from his previous albums. During the rollout, he mentioned about his experimentation because he wanted to be taken seriously as an artist.
Lil Yachty said “I think I created it just because I really wanted to be taken serious as an artist, you know. Not just some SoundCloud rapper, not some mumble rapper. Not some guy that just made one hit.” “I wanted to be really taken serious because music is, like, everything to me. I respect all walks of music, not just rap and hip-hop, everything. So I think I wanted to make something to show the world just how great it was to me.”
Just after the initial release of the album on January 27, Questlove expressed his opinion on Lil Yachty’s new album.
“After about 3 listens (and I thought I’d NEVER say this—-& not because “I didn’t expect this from Lil Yachty”——but just in general I didn’t expect this from MUSIC) How should I put it? I really really really really love this Lil Yachty record and I love when artists pull off a good departure record.”
His Performance.
Yachty wore a hoodie with dark sunglasses at his appearance at the show. The stage was filled with blue and black lighting, with plants and some greenery. The background was a flashing moon that was surrounded by a rainbow. There was also an all-women backing band that accompanied him throughout the performance.
Lil Yachty explained why he wanted to have an all-women band in Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe interview.
Lil Yachty said that he felt women don’t get as much recognition as men when it comes to the music industry so he wanted to show women playing them.
The beat changed to a smooth vocal interlude performed by Diana Gordon midway through the performance. She delivered smooth, impeccable sounds, dressed in an elegant ivory gown.
